"We met Jim for the first time when we were shopping for a pool for our new house. By that time we had already checked half a dozen different pool companies. He showed up at our house and gave an absolutely outstanding presentation about his pool design for our house that included the PCC 2000 in-floor cleaning system. The fate of our pool was decided. "We first came into contact with Jim Burkhart in February 2005. We were in the process of building our home in Seven Meadows and we wanted to be very proactive on our pool construction. In this time frame we were "kicking the tires" on several pool companies operating in the Katy area and we quickly became very impressed. Jim significantly differentiated his company from the others through a combination of state-of-the-art technology and pool construction know-how. Jim was able to coordinate our pool building exactly with the closing on our house. We closed on April 22, and that same afternoon, Jim's team marked out the pool and began digging the very next day, a Saturday. Jim put us on a fast track that included lots of his own time from a quality control standpoint. There were unexpected turns in the road, but his active involvement ensured that we remained on track. When points came up that got us off plan, Jim made sure we knew about them and he helped us understand the benefits of making minor modifications. An example of this was adding more rock to the waterfall and rear of the pool area than anticipated. Over the last couple of months, we have had some challenges, but Jim and team's responsiveness made these slight wrinkles instead of major problems. Everything is solved in real time and we, as the customers, stayed very satisfied. Jim's trusted advisor approach is what other businesses and trades in the Katy area do not have. "April 30, 2010 I wanted to take a moment to thank you for doing such a great job on our pool. Your attention to detail and focus on quality made the entire build process an enjoyable one. We had owned a pool before in Dallas, about 10 years ago, and I swore I’d never own another one. Seems every time I turned around, we were having one problem or another. So when we decided to look at adding a pool to our new house here in Katy, we made sure to go slow, ask a lot of questions, and get several bids from different pool companies. We looked at several companies and your company Fort Bend Custom Pools. Every pool company we met had a reason for why we should go with them, and they each came to the table with a design they felt would meet our needs. I two companies after I saw the software (Pool Studio) that you used to design pools. Seeing our entire pool in 3D, at the exact elevation, with the house and landscaping was nothing less than amazing. That set you apart from the last company was your customer service and determination to give us the design we wanted, not the one you thought we should have. You spent many evenings at our home putting me at ease with the new construction process, materials used and ultimate final product you would produce for us. Our goal was to have a pool that blended in with the style of our home and gave a sense of being at a resort. You gladly took my input and used your skills on the computer to show me what the final outcome would look like. Other than the design talent, what set you far apart from your competition was your overall knowledge of pool building, experience building pools in Houston as well as other parts of the country including Phoenix, AZ, and your unwavering demand for quality workmanship, quality materials and proven construction techniques used during the build. I have no doubt that our pool will last a very long time and maintenance will be minimal. Above all else, Jim, I appreciate how you handled my extremely meticulous wife Michele. You returned her calls immediately, and showed her you would handle any curve balls that surprised us during construction and would quickly address any question or concerns she had. "It has been over three years since the completion of our pool and spa. Three great years of summer swimming, winter hot-tubing, and lots of quality time with our family and friends. During that time, the pool has required nearly zero effort to maintain and no problems with the equipment. The flagstone, Pebble Tec pool finish and the decking looks like the day it went in, no cracking, no chipping, no fading. "Selecting a pool builder is a difficult and time-consuming process. We were pleased that following several interviews we finally found Jim. We wanted to be involved in the design process and Jim Burkhart was open to that allowing us to present him a number of pictures, design options and ideas that we eventually worked into a final pool plan. Thanks again for your patience Jim! He offers premium quality materials and equipment. We wanted a solidly constructed, beautiful and high quality pool. We had planned on getting a saltwater system since they are supposed to reduce eye irritation in pools. Surprisingly, several other pool builders we interviewed were not recommending salt. Jim proposed an ozone water purification system. The ozone system sanitizes the pool so well that we are able to use much less chlorine and still keep the pool crystal clear. The water in our pool has a chlorine level that is similar to what you find in your tap water and the pool stays clear. It’s amazing! During our pool construction process we got lucky with the weather avoiding any substantial rain. Nevertheless we give the team a lot of credit for coordinating a quick and efficient construction of our pool. Our pool took just over a month from start to finish and turned out beautifully. We have had our pool for just a few months now and it has been working very nicely. The drainage system that was included in our pool has vastly improved problem areas in the yard that used to hold water. This is our first pool and we are still learning. I should mention that they have has been there for us in the weeks and months after our pool was built. They have answered questions and offered a helping hand as needed. While we would recommend Jim to anyone building a pool, we would especially recommend them for first time pool builders as their pool school is very comprehensive and follow up support has been wonderful. "August 17, 2008 We are almost finished building our pool right now. So far they have been EXCELLENT!! We spent a long time researching builders and using the BBB We chose Jim based on recommendations from friends, and how they put their pools together. Quality, durability, functionality and ease of maintenance are all taken into consideration when they design your pool for you. My husband is a typical engineer and even he was impressed with the ‘nuts-and-bolts” they use. You may get cheaper proposals from other builders (as did we), but found that once you look closely at what you would be getting their proposal shined with respect to quality and cost. Jim looks at energy efficient equipment (with current costs, this is money well spent up front), ease of maintenance, and long term durability. Also, they have all kinds of pretty stone and tile to choose from – I love that they don’t limit your choices. We found with other builders, the nicer tile and flagstone were all ‘upgrades’ and increased the cost of your pool. When we took the cheaper bids and added in the features standard with Jim, the cheaper bids became much more expensive. So far, construction has been so easy (other than a temporarily messy back yard). We signed a contract with no money down – from there, they do the Home Owners Association application for improvement (some companies make you do this) and lay out the pool in your yard. Once you sign off on the layout, it all happens and happens FAST. In only two days, they dug the hole (at completion of this is when you make the first payment to them – again not typical of local builders), put in the steel and some plumbing and were ready for the gunite! We are on day 10 now and the guys are here cutting the stone for the coping and trim around the spa. We have heard horror stories of pool builders getting started, collecting money and losing interest in your pool. So far, we haven’t had a day yet without a crew working in the back yard. Give Jim Burkhart a shout if you are interested –they will come over and meet with you to understand what you want and layout a 3-D model of your pool in your yard (this is really cool, and helps get the exact pool you want). We worked with Brent and Jim for a while before finalizing our design. During this stage, they made changes to our plan without any complaints (and seemed happy for us that we were refining a pool tailored to our likings). They have worked so hard to help us discover what we truly want in a pool and obviously want us to have a quality pool to enjoy for a lifetime. Lastly, Jim carries a $2,000,000 insurance policy to protect you during construction of the pool and most importantly they issue a release of lien when everything is finished. What this means is that a subcontractor can’t show up at your door and demand payment for the work done on your pool. Without this release of lien, any subcontractor that wasn’t paid by the pool builder can do this and actually put a lien against your house until you pay them directly. Other than that, Jim is a local Katy resident who understand how each neighborhood’s HOA’s work. With their experience in building pools and working here locally everything has been so smooth. Follow up on January 16, 2009 I know in the past I have seen some recommendations that included we are “almost” finished and I totally disregarded their opinion thinking, “talk to me when it is FINISHED and you have had it for a while. We have had it for a while and it takes very little maintenance—something I wasn’t to willing to believe you on. If I am feeling stressed all I have to do is look out the window and it is so therapeutic. Even though it is cold we are always outside enjoying the look and sound of it. "At the start of 2008 we made the decision on building a pool and within any important decision we decided to develop a list of pool companies to speak with on design, building and installation of equipment. Our first discussion was with Jim. This initial discussion exceeded our expectations as the design and placement of the pool gave us a very comfortable feeling that our needs would be met. After talking with several current customers we then made the decision to have Jim install our pool! Throughout the entire build process Jim and his staff have been very approachable and their experience is evident in their beautiful pools. Driving into our driveway everyday and being able to enjoy our wonderful new backyard has been extremely gratifying. From the installation of the pool to the interaction of the landscaping and lighting everything has turned out way beyond our initial thoughts when we began the process. The one item that we asked Jim and his staff to install was a swimming device to allow us to exercise in the pool. Jim was able to source the Endless Pools Fastlane equipment and his staff installed the unit with no issues and we have benefited from the swim exercise and our girls have benefited from the "lazy river" the Fastlane generates when turned on. Service calls have not presented a problem at all. Sometimes they are able to advise us over the phone on what to do and they are able to schedule and fix the problem within a timely manner. We would highly recommend him to any future pool owner as it is not just a pool but a redefined living space. We have found great enjoyment with the pool and the extended family time with our girls this past summer is a definite benefit. "February 3, 2011 Jim Burkhart designed, and installed my swimming pool, covered patio, and outdoor kitchen over a 1 1/2 years ago. He oversaw the entire construction process and brought only top quality contractors to perform the work. The deluxe hot tub package is unlike any in ground hot tub built. It is the envy of everyone who gets in it. The PCC 2000 In Floor Cleaning System has functioned flawlessly and has made the pool virtually maintenance free, along with the ozonator eliminating the need for a lot of chlorine. The custom stone and wood work on my patio is second to none, and even though we have had only 2 small issues since the start up, both times Jim has had someone there the very next day to correct the issues.
